Today’s Journal Exercise:
Imagine the feeling of an energy boost… Those moments in life when you discover something, or do something, or meet someone, and it’s like a switch is turned on inside you and you feel a boost of positive energy and inspiration. Write down all of the things you can think of that do that for you, and describe the last time you felt it. Give yourself lots of latitude and freedom to write on whatever comes up.

The lumbar spine is the lower region of the back, specifically, the bottom five vertebrae of the spine. Thirty one million people are affected by back pain at any given time, with one half of all working Americans reporting that they have back symptoms each year.

Which Factors Are Responsible for Spine Pain and How to Reduce This Pain?

Spine pain can also be described as back pain. The difference would be that the spine itself is experiencing the pain, as opposed to referred pain, which is where pain is felt in another part of the body, although the affected nerve is in the spine.

Will Disc Replacement Surgery Help in the Treatment of Cervical Radiculopathy?

Disc replacement is a surgical procedure that is an option for treating cervical radiculopathy – a herniated disc in the neck area. The procedure has seen more success on the cervical region, but is also prescribed for the lumbar, or lower back area. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2004 for the lumbar region and in 2007 for the cervical region, disc replacement was developed as an alternative to spinal fusion, in which the vertebrae are fused together rather than replacing the natural cushion, or disc.

When You Need Spinal Fusion?

Spinal fusion, a procedure that allows vertebrae to merge together, can be performed on different areas of the back – the cervical region, the thoracic part and the lumbar section. Spinal fusion can be a minimally invasive surgery that can remove immense pain that an individual feels when they move their back.

Why Orthopedic and Neurological Spine Surgeons Prefer Minimally Invasive Kyphoplasty Surgery?

Minimally invasive spine surgery is the method of choice for most orthopedic and neurological spine surgeons when surgery is indicated for an individual with severe back pain. With a smaller incision, allowing a patient to heal more quickly, and better visualization of the procedure on a screen in front of him or her, it can produce a more positive result for the patient, with quicker recovery and less time in the hospital.
